Second Play Toys - Collections
Second Play Toys – giving great toys a second life.
The Second Play Toys pilot was launched in January 2026 to keep quality toys in use, make them accessible to more people and do it in a way that works commercially and operationally.
Over the past few months, we've seen just how many high quality, unwanted toys sit idle or go to landfill – toys that can easily be used by other families and services that support children. Second Play Toys creates a clear, practical pathway to keep them in use.
The process is simple:
- Families bring in their clean, complete and working toys.
- We assess, price and offer them for sale to other families, educators, libraries – anyone using 'toys' to educate, engage or entertain children.
- Families are paid once each item sells.
- Quality toys stay in circulation, not in cupboards or landfill.
What comes through Second Play Toys
Each item is individually assessed before it goes on sale. We focus on toys that are:
- Clean
- Complete enough to use as intended
- In good working order
- Worth buying again.
The range reflects how toys are actually used over time:
- Everyday play items
- Learning and development resources
- Games, puzzles and structured activities
- Collectables, vintage and harder-to-find pieces.

For educators, libraries and community services
Second Play Toys gives educators and child-facing services access to good-quality children’s resources without relying only on new-stock educational suppliers.
This is especially useful when you need to top up resources during the year, replace damaged or missing items, add variety to a room or find practical materials for open-ended learning.
The range changes regularly but may include:
- puzzles, games and problem-solving resources
- books and literacy materials
- animal figures, vehicles and small-world play
- role-play and dramatic play items
- construction, building and STEM resources
- loose parts, sorting materials and fine-motor resources
- wooden toys and well-made early learning resources
- collectable or harder-to-find items suitable for older children, libraries or community programs.
Some items look simple at first glance – a bag of beads, a toolkit, a box of animals, a set of blocks – but in the hands of an educator, they can become rich learning materials for sorting, counting, storytelling, building, language development, fine-motor practice, pattern recognition and imaginative play.
Second Play Toys are priced according to condition, usefulness, availability and replacement value. Many items offer strong value compared with buying new, especially where resources are near-new, durable, hard to source or suitable for repeated use.
Second Play Toys will not always replace a full educational supplier. We may not always have the resources to support a complete room refresh. But we can complement what you buy elsewhere with good-quality, affordable resources that add depth, variety and practical learning value.
Alongside Second Play Toys, educators and organisations can also access trade pricing on the full Hello Youngster range of new toys, games, books and learning resources.
